What does conservatorship mean and when is it appropriate? In this Parenting Hacks: Conservatorship 101 training, experienced attorney Scott Soady joins the Exceptional Family Resource Center to explain the legal realities of limited conservatorship for Regional Center clients.
This workshop walks families through the different types of conservatorships, the legal rights involved, and the process of requesting one in California. You’ll learn what decisions a conservator may be allowed to make, what happens when a child turns 18, and why courts consider it a serious legal step.
The training explores alternatives to conservatorship—such as powers of attorney, healthcare directives, supported decision-making, ABLE accounts, and special needs trusts—so families can make informed decisions about the level of support their young adult really needs.
